Peladang Tioman Chalet
Our family of 4 required a self-catering accommodation solution for our 10-days scubadiving safari in and around Tioman and after searching high and low, we chanced upon Peladang Tioman Chalet's VIP Room. And it's perfect! The chalets' design is traditional Malay with a cosy feel. Nice.
Book your Peladang Tioman Chalet room
Alright, let's start with the location. Peladang Tioman Chalet is situated along the main backbone that runs through the village of Tekek. That means that if you're looking for a beach-front room, you'll have to keep looking, because Peladang Tioman Chalet isn't by the beach.
In fact, Peladang Tioman Chalet is about 100 meters away from the water's edge. But since it's behind the Tekek Marina, you'll need to walk either north or south for a few minutes to get to the actual beach.
Then again, Peladang Tioman Chalet VIP Rooms target quite a particular kind of traveler; typically, it's groups that stay at Peladang Tioman Chalet, either families, company retreats or scuba-diving parties, that tend to stay in Tioman for about a week or longer. Since the Peladang Tioman Chalet VIP Rooms offer a kitchen, those that stay here can opt to self-cater, which reduces overall expenditure.
Welcome to Peladang Tioman Chalet
This also applied to us. Our main goal was to scuba-dive all the locations that Tioman Island has to offer, knowing that you've got a comfy little roost to come back to that's a bit like your home away from home. In this regard, Peladang Tioman Chalet served its purpose perfectly.
The Peladang Tioman Chalet setting is a well-landscaped garden with a variety of plants, fruit trees and hedges, all groomed to perfection. Actually, you could mistake Peladang Tioman Chalet for a city suburb inn, rather than a tropical island accommodation. But who cares, because the beach is a stone's throw away after all.

Typically, the ferry stops at all the main jetties. However, there is the occasional exception, so once aboard, confirm the ferry route with the cabin crew. Taking the Tanjung Gemok ferry? Our VIP unit was clean, spacious and came equipped with two bedrooms (1 double bed and 2 twin bed), a bathroom, a small kitchen with a sink and a fridge. It also had a living room with Astro cable TV, armchairs and a table. We had fans, in addition to aircon and the shower was hot-water. A pretty good deal at RM 200, although I was told this varies with the season.
By the way, we also had a verandah out front, which was awesome for whiling away the sultry nights.
Does Peladang Tioman Chalet have any bonus features? Plenty. It's got a mini-market just next to it, as well as a restaurant and a karaoke corner. The other great asset Peladang Tioman Chalet has is that it's a mere 5 minutes away from the Tekek Jetty. Just head south once you get off the bridge after disembarking the ferry. Peladang Tioman Chalet will be on your left.
If you're the type that likes to be out and about, then note that there's a volleyball spot at Peladang Tioman Chalet. Also, you can ask any of the Peladang Tioman Chalet staff to set you up with an excursion, be it snorkeling or jungle-trekking. We did both on the one day we didn't go scuba-diving and I recommend both excursions. They're quite entertaining, especially for nature-lovers and kids.
Tip: If you're just 2 people, than note that the Standard Chalets at Peladang Tioman Chalet go for about RM 100 per night. Aircon, fan and hot-water shower included. Incidentally, Peladang Tioman Chalet has 20 rooms, but they looked all booked out when we were there, so it's probably best to book your unit in advance. There's a bakery called "Shady's" right next to Peladang mini market that sells a mean pizza. Bicycles are available for rent at RM 30 for the whole day. Note that there's a 75+ pax conference room available for company retreat outings.
