Fiqhtya Chalet
We were assigned Fiqhtya Chalet for our diving package. Fiqhtya Chalet is an honest hostel for an honest price. You certainly shouldn't expect a lot of swank or high-society flair staying at Fiqhtya Chalet, because you won't find it.
However, if you're looking for a decent night's sleep in a decent room at a decent price, then Fiqhtya Chalet is for you.
We particularly liked the way Fiqhtya Chalet was close to our dive outfit, Dive Tioman, very convenient.
Bienvenue à Fiqhtya Chalet
By the way, Fiqhtya Chalet is also just a short stroll away from the ferry jetty.
For those not yet in the know, Fiqhtya Chalet is located in the Tioman village of Air Batang. Another name for this village that you may come across here and there is Ayer Batang or just "ABC". The ABC stands for "Air Batang Chalet, signifying that there are quite a lot of hostels that provide rooms, some with airconditioning and some without.
Speaking of airconditioning, our Fiqhtya Chalet room was fully airconditioned. In fact, I think aircon is a bit of a must in Tioman, especially if you're going to be outdoors a lot. I can only imagine how hot and stifling the non-aircon rooms must be at night. It's not quite conducive to a good night's sleep, least of all, given the mozzies that will have not qualms invading your room when it's hot. Aircon tends to discourage mozzies. This is the other reason we chose an aircon room. But fan-only rooms are also available.

Fiqhtya Chalet also runs a shop and a cafe, so you're never really left for wanting anything.
The Fiqhtya cafe, incidentally, provides very tasty dishes, mostly of the Malay variety, although, as we experienced, requests for western food are taken.
Just FYI, some of the local dishes may be pretty sharply seasoned by default, so if your pallet isn't chili-proof, then best you mention this whilst ordering a Malay dish.
Fiqhtya Chalet also has a souvenir shop and a front desk where you can book speedboat island-hopping and snorkeling trips, or rent a bicycle.
In addition, you can request for food packages or their laundry service if you require these. We found both pretty nifty for if you don't want to waste any time. Both are reasonably priced too.
Tip: Fiqhtya Chalet is just a modest bed and breakfast, so I recommend that you book your room in advance. You can try and book Fiqhtya Chalet on Agoda but if they're not on Agoda yet, then try giving them a call on +60 7733582.
