Coconut Grove
Coconut Grove in Juara, Tioman Island, is the kind of place to go to really, really get away from it all. The beach here is simply breathtaking. In fact, it's easy to imagine that just 50 years ago or so this island was still virtually untouched by people.
And it's not for nothing that this very stretch of Tioman has featured in various "Most Beautiful Beaches in the World" lists.

The flip-side is that getting to Coconut Grove is a bit of a mission. After taking the ferry from Mersing to Kampong Tekek, you need to catch a 4x4 across the dense Tioman interior, a pretty rocky 20 minute drive. Coconut Grove is considered "ulu", the Malay word for remote.
That said, once you're here, you have little to fear from blaring boom boxes, incessantly whining jet-skis or misbehaving louts with oversized nosey-parker dogs in tow.

Coconut Grove is just not that type of establishment. Rather, Coconut Grove is all about hanging out at the beach, having a cold one at the bar and basically enjoying quality time with loved ones. Coconut Grove = cocooning.
Mind you, there's water sports equipment available for those keen to crank up the adrenaline a bit. In fact, Juara does get surfable swell at times, although the best surf, i.e. up to 3 meters or more, hits Juara during the monsoon months, December, January and February.
You can also go on a jungle-trek or an island-hopping trip. Both trips are recommended - you'll be amazed at how much you get to see and experience.
Coconut Grove's rooms are fresh and clean, which shouldn't be a surprise, because, after all, this relative newcomer to Tioman was completed barely a few years ago.
Food-wise, don't expect a massive spread. There are basically a dozen or so variations to choose from, some local, some western and all dishes are well-prepared and above par. Those keen to try some other dishes can walk to the adjacent kampong.
Meanwhile, the Coconut Grove bar, whilst pretty basic, more than suffices in terms of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Conclusion
Coconut Grove is located on the East coast of Tioman, the quieter side of the island. If you're looking for tranquil days and nights by the beach with your loved-ones, then Coconut Grove is for you. However, the wi-fi available also allows for the occasional update with the outside world for those so inclined.
Tip: Visit the turtle conservation centre nearby Coconut Grove. It's a real eye-opener. And the tiny baby turtles look way cute. Also, search for a good room rate on Agoda, because some months are considered low season, which means prices drop to very appealing levels.
